This winter as we were thinking on the new year, I was naming seasonal rhythms and rituals that brought delight and belonging to our family. Things like evening flashlight walks around the block on winter nights, Saturday morning bike rides to the Downtown Cary Farmers Market, spring trips to the garden center and dirty hands as we tend to the flowers that somehow get clipped before I can enjoy them from my oldest. ;-) As a Raleigh Family Photographer, I realized that it is these very rhythms that make my heart jump as a parent and build a sense of belonging for my family. It is what inspires all that I create.
When this Raleigh family reached out wanting to do photos in their home that captured the rhythms that make their family unique and provide a sense of safety and joy, I was so excited to hear more. As we planned their lifestyle family photo session in Raleigh, we named a few activities around their home that they all enjoyed doing together - playing on the porch, basketball in their backyard garden, and popsicles of course.
It was a loose plan that guided us into an emotive, natural, and fun family photo session.
When I am unhurried in my own life, I find myself pausing and noticing the delight that simple daily movements have on my kids. Some things that come to mind are running around the house to be chased by dad after bath time, the 10x my son walks around the yard a day to collect a “bouquet” for me, fort building at 8am in the morning in our living room, the list goes on.
In my photography process, I ask a lot about what these Rhythms are for you because I truly believe the simple movements of love are what create wholeness in family and I desperately want to celebrate you in that through artful and emotive photography.
